Skills

A skill is a written procedure for doing one kind of work. Bom installs 40 of them, and adds more as you use it.

Built-in skills

Skills are reusable procedures that teach Bom how to do specialized work. The common ones are built in from day one:

  • 40 skills covering documents, decks, data, video, and web automation
  • Each skill is a markdown file in the skill folder on your PC
  • The agent picks the skill that fits the task, reads it, and follows it

Skills that learn (self-improving)

Bom doesn't just use skills — it writes them. The more you work together, the more capable it becomes:

  • After a successful, non-trivial task, the agent distills the reusable procedure into a new skill
  • If an existing skill already covers the same ground, no new one is written
  • Browse them all in the desktop Skills app as a graph or a list — and edit or delete the ones you made
Where they live

Skills are stored only in the skill folder on your PC. They are never uploaded to the server.

Trusted sources

Bom prioritizes skills from trusted sources. Built-in tools always take priority over reusable skills, so you can be confident that core functionality works reliably.
